The beauty of rocks

As a part of the project we’ll be digitising some of the thin sections of Shropshire rocks that the collections hold. They were made by taking thin slices of rock from specimens collected throughout the county. Under a microscope they reveal the minerals that make up the rock and under polarised light often show beautiful colours and patterns. This section is of an igneous rock from the Shropshire area.
