Checking for dust

The problem with taking high resolution images is that when you zoom in, you can see previously unseen specks of dust or fibres a bit too clearly. So last week saw the team and some of our volunteers having a little conservation training from our project conservator, so that we can help speed up the process of making objects available to photograph.

With geology specimens it is useful to know a little about the type of rock and or mineral you are working with, as they are often much more fragile than they appear. By the end of the day we'd worked through a good selection of items that can now be digitised and we'd all picked up a few more skills along the way.
